Dock Street Theatre
$20 Million Renovation Underway
The Historic Dock Street Theatre is currently closed for renovations. Charleston Stage plans to return to the Dock Street when it reopens in May 2010.
The Historic Dock Street Theatre, home to Charleston Stage for the past 30 years, is undergoing a $20 million restoration by the City of Charleston.
Renovations will provide new seats, restrooms and lobby facilities and state-of-the-art lighting to this historic structure. Three elevators are being added to make the building completely handicapped accessible.
Stabilization includes insuring that the structure is earthquake resistant.
The Historic Dock Street Theatre, built within the shell of the Planters Hotel (circa 1800), is built on the site of the original Dock Street Theatre, first theatre building in America.

  2. Hi Julie...

Ohhh...what fun! This looks like it was quite a production and to think that the kids only had 3 weeks to work on it...that's fabulous! What a great experience for your daughter...she sure is a beautiful girl! The high school choir of our little rural school put on "Guys and Dolls" a few years back...they did such a great job...it was very entertaining! I just think it's a great experience...everyone should do this at least once in their lifetime!

Thank you for sharing...Happy Sunday Favorites!

  6. That is a fantastic and quite amazing feat-- to pull off a musical with that many cast members in 3 weeks. I am awed!
